Gartner Analytics and BI Bake-off 2023: Analysis of Flooding and Flood Mitigation

Each year, as part of the Gartner Data and Analytics Summit, Gartner invites vendors from the Magic Quadrant for Analytics and Business Intelligence Platforms to show how their product can help solve real-world problems and find insights in real-world data. In previous years we’ve looked into the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals, the impact of COVID-19, the opioid crisis in the USA, and many others.

This year’s topic was to analyze factors that may be increasing the risk of flooding and identify mitigation strategies countries might take to combat the risk of flooding disasters. We were asked to use data from OECD’s Flood Risk Indicators and daily weather measurement data from the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) combined with additional data we could find to perform the analysis.

We were given a detailed list of capabilities to cover across three demo sections: data management, analysis and content creation, and sharing findings. We use these sections to showcase the latest and greatest Power BI features we’ve introduced recently. The sections are very short, typically 4-5 minutes each, and we’re challenged to demo against each other on stage!

Here’s a video highlighting the features we demoed at the Gartner event: Gartner Analytics and BI Bake-off 2023: Analysis of Flooding and Flood Mitigation – YouTube

The foundation of centralized connection management is granular access control. Power BI always enforces granular access control for shareable cloud connections (SCCs). For all other data connection types, it can be enabled at the tenant, workspace, and dataset level.
