Power BI – Updates from browser to desktop and new automated insights

It’s been nearly a year since we released the preview of Power BI. With the recent availability of Office 365 E5, on today’s Microsoft Mechanics we take a ten-minute demo tour of the latest Power BI updates that allow for more customization, increased visualization and automated insights from the browser to the desktop.

You can learn more as Michael Tejedor walks through the most important additions, starting with visualization advancements through the new charting engine which includes the ability to build your own custom chart types. He also shows off the new browser editing capabilities on powerbi.com, with drill downs into the underlying reports in the live dashboard and demonstrates how you can use the many pre-packaged Content Packs from popular services like Salesforce, CRM Online or Marketo — and even Content Packs created leveraging your own company data — for faster data visualization. Michael also steps back to showcase the rich experience for building interactive reports with Power BI Desktop.

Keep watching to the end as the tour culminates with a look at automated insights in Power BI which automatically exposes trends and uncovers patterns in a dataset via the new Quick Insights feature.

You can try Power BI today for free at PowerBI.com. If your company uses Office 365, Power BI Pro is available as part of the new Office 365 E5 plan or it’s available as a stand-alone offering.

We’ve also featured Power BI in action on past Mechanics shows highlighting the Lotus F1 Team implementation and predicting the outcome of last year’s El Clasico match in Barcelona. Happy watching!
